Vila Chã

Vila Chã is a small fishing village full of charm, where life is simple, authentic, and closely tied to the sea. The village has plenty to offer, all within walking distance.

Just steps from the apartment, mornings begin at the local bakery, where locals stop in for fresh bread, buttery croissants, and strong coffee — the perfect place to feel part of the community.

Restaurant Salitre

Restaurante Salitre is a real highlight in Vila Cha, loved for its fresh fish and excellent wine list. With large windows opening toward the Atlantic, every meal comes with sweeping sea views - the perfect backdrop for a relaxed lunch or a memorable dinner at sunset.

Café Praia Mar

For a truly authentic experience, head to Café Praia Mar, where fish is grilled outside over charcoal. The owner — a welcoming Portuguese lady who runs her place with heart and character — serves her dishes at her own pace. Waiting times can be a little unpredictable, but that’s part of the charm: come with time, enjoy a drink, and savor beautifully simple grilled fish.

Taskuinha (“the pirate”)

Taskuinha, affectionately nicknamed “the pirate,” is a cozy spot for sharing petiscos (Portuguese tapas). You can even take your drink outside to sip it right next to the beach, or head to the quiet outdoor seating area in the back for a more relaxed atmosphere.

Beach bar (summer only)

In summer, the sand comes alive with a small beach bar run by a friendly Portuguese-Brazilian couple. It’s the kind of place where time slows down - you can grab a cold beer after a swim, enjoy simple snacks, and, of course, try their famous caipirinhas. With your feet in the sand and the ocean just a few steps away, you’ll find it hard to leave, especially as the sun begins to set and the sky fills with color.

Village Life by the Sea

The sea remains at the heart of village life. On the beach next to the flat, you can still watch the traditional fishing boats, run by one family for generations. If you’re up early, you’ll see them pulling the boats ashore and unloading the catch — a scene that hasn’t changed much in decades. Beyond the village, wooden walkways stretch along the coast, perfect for long seaside strolls. Follow them and you’ll reach Castro de São Paio, where cliffs meet the ocean and a traditional restaurant serves fresh seafood in a beautiful natural setting. And if you’re after something more active, nearby Mindelo and Árvore are great for surfing and kitesurfing, with surf lessons available in Árvore if you’d like to give it a try.

A Place on the Caminho de Santiago

Vila Chã is also one of the coastal passing points on the Caminho de Santiago. Pilgrims walk through the village daily, and seeing them pass with such purpose and simplicity can be surprisingly inspiring.

For us, Vila Chã feels like the essence of the Atlantic — simple, authentic, and timeless.

We hope you’ll discover it in your own way and feel at home here, with the village at your door, the ocean before you, and the terrace as the perfect place to take it all in.
